Delta Vancouver Hotel, more than a place to sleep: food review

By Nadia V. (Mama and the City)

Last Tuesday I was able to attend the Vancouver downtown twitter party for Blissdom Canada, you can find out more on #YVRBliss on Twitter.
This party was hosted at the Delta Vancouver Hotel, downtown, which reception and amenities were beyond spectacular. We were greeted by the hotel manager and followed by their signature sangria, already this was set to become a great party.
We were talking, laughing, instagraming, tweeting and drinking when suddenly we were told we were some of the lucky  people trying the Delta Vancouver Hotel’s new menu. We were ecstatic! And probably you would too, let me brake it out for you.
COLD DISHES
White wine poached apricot crostini. blue cheese flan, candied pecans. This was the star of the night. When our first plate made our table, it came with only one of them. I ate it and my face said it all, we had to ask for more. Single dishes were sent our way with only this dish (right side photo). We were in heaven.

I was sceptical at first for seeing being blue cheese, but the sharpness on the cheese was very subtle and well balanced with the sweetness added to the pecan and apricot. This is highly recommended.

Mini caprese spoons. Cherry tomato, baby bocconcini, fresh basil, toasted croûton. This was second in my list. The flavours here were very familiar as I have tried then in Italian salads, but I was happy to see it in bite size. Refreshing, not overpowering and very delicious.

Prosciutto melon tartlets. melon pearls, basil gelee. This tartlet was as well refreshing and delicious. As you put your teeth into it the flavours of the tartlet start to work it’s way to your brain, you must keep eating. One thing that didn’t work for me was the prosciutto. I could be happily eating 10 of this with out it. But other than that, deliciously addictive.

Albacore tuna poke cones. sesame cone, chili, Szechuan soy dressing, tobiko. Creative and delicious. If I were at home I would have been able to enjoy them more, you know, grabbing them with my hands and be messy. Still worth the stain if falling on your favourite jeans.

Sockeye salmon tartar. pickled golden beets, lemon zest, tarragon, brioche crostini. Also delicious.

Tiger prawn ceviche spoons. fresh lime, vodka, chive, chili, jicama. Okay, there was a little bit of discontent with the flavours on this one, mostly because ‘they’ (not me) seemed to think there was rancid lemon after-taste. I quite liked it. I think it was the mix of vodka that threw them off, but I still found this bite deliciously refreshing and very light. I say try it.

WARM DISHES

Mini crab cakes. spicy remoulade. The buns were to die for. Fresh, not too dense and packed with inner flavours. I had 2, but in my defence if it wasn’t because I was eating so much of the cold dishes, I would have eaten 5 of these.
Mini portobello slider. pepper artichoke tapenade, provolone cheese, basil aioli. For not being a fan of real-crab smell, I managed to stuffed my mouth with two of these babies. They were crunchy and cheesy delicious.

Our twitter party couldn’t have been the success it was without the hospitality of the Delta Vancouver Hotel. They went above and beyond with their service – very attentive and helpful to every question or request thrown their way – making this venue impossible to forget.
We were extremely satisfied and definitely will be part of our recommendation to our locals, friends and family not only for good place to stay but also for a decadent meal option.
